If You Ask...

I'm not sure why, but a lot of you guys have been asking me to post pictures of my games collection. Unfortunately, unlike Chris Slate, my collection is a bit messy and certainly not arranged in nice displays, but at least you'll get to see some of the "computer entertainment" products that I have. That is, if you can make them out from the photos.

I've got a lot more stuff in my storage room, but here is what is currently laying around in the "man room" downstairs. Recently, my PS one collection has dwindled to only a few hundred titles as I traded like 40 of them to a guy for a brand-new Xbox 360. Looking back, I think the trade was worth it, but I did have to give up some good titles like the Working Designs Lunar box sets :-(

Maybe, one day, when I get "settled", I'll post up pics of all my consoles and the rest of the games that I have in boxes. You'll definitely see a wide range of stuff from Amiga 500 titles to Wonderswan classics and even a few interesting Japanese collections. Until then, enjoy these examples of professional photography :-)

DLP Is For Me...

Well, despite my wife's ok with getting the more-expensive SXRD Sony tv, I decided that paying an additional $1000 or so to get limited 1080p support just wasn't worth it... So I went with something a bit different. As most of you know, I'm a big Sony fan due to my love of the company's hardware. I've been very lucky and have yet to have any piece of Sony equipment break on me. I guess that's why I have three Sony televisions, an A/V receiver, four PlayStation consoles, a PSP, two DVD players, a LaserDisc player and probably a few more things that I can't think of right now.

So, one would expect that my first HD television would be a Sony, right? It almost was, but I just decided to go with the best bang for the buck and ended up with a 50" Samsung DLP. For those who are interested, the model number is HL-R5067W and it looks like this:

Go figure. I'm still coming to grips with the "HD Era", but I am definitely loving it. Being able to watch CSI and Lost in high-res, widescreen is just too awesome and it's only going to get better with the introduction of Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. Granted, I will have to live with a down-scanned 720p picture (since most current projection tvs, including my new one, have that as the standard resolution), but I don't think I'll mind. Maybe in 7 years when 1080p is the new standard for everything, my wife will let me upgrade. :-) Still, having my 360 hooked up via VGA and my eventual PS3 via HDMI is going to provide for some nice gaming goodness. Having 50" of screen real estate doesn't hurt either and provides the double benefit of being able to entertain Aiden with large, moving pictures (i.e. cartoons).

Those of you on the fence about getting an HD-capable tv shouldn't be. Now is a great time to get one, but you will have to decide if the jump to 1080p is worth the current price of admission. At least for me 720p/1080i support is perfectly fine and definitely the sweet spot when it comes to prices. And when all the newly announced models get released later this Spring/Summer, the prices are bound to drop even further. Regardless, it is now my duty to get everyone on the HD bandwagon... It just makes game playing and movie watching feel like a whole new experience.

If any of you already have an HD television, definitely post the model number and your general comments about it. It might help others with their own future tv buying decisions.

Banned Xbox 360 Ad?

This may be old for some of you hardcore web surfers out there, but I thought I should mention it anyway. Here's a link to that original Xbox 360 ad that didn't quite go over too well with the parental units... and pretty much any other non-violence group. Check it out here.

Ultraviolet Trailer

This new Milla Jovovich movie seemingly came out of nowhere, but it definitely grabbed my attention. As a friend mentioned to me, it does look like a higher-budget Aeon Flux. Hey, if she can capture any of the magic that made me love The Fifth Element then I'm totally there. What do you all think?
